Students begin an exploration of cryptology by first learning about two simple coding methods, the Caesar cipher and the Vigenere cipher. Students then use matrices and their inverses to create more sophisticated codes.
Individual Lessons
Lesson 1 - Caesar Cipher In this lesson, students will investigate the Caesar substitution cipher. Text will be encoded and decoded using inverse operations. Lesson 2 - Vigenere Cipher Following their introduction to the Caesar cipher, students will now learn about the polyalphabetic Vigenere cipher. Text will be encoded and decoded using inverse operations.
