This site presents 48 problems addressing a breadth of mathematical topics. The problems are clearly stated and many of them require exploration and conjecture, thus building students' problem solving skills. Problems address the students’ number sense, spatial sense, and logical reasoning abilities, and many of the problems require the student to recognize numerical or geometric patterns. These problems should be relatively challenging for students in the fifth grade and will help build problem solving, geometric, and algebraic skills.
The problems are not repetitive and can be approached in a variety of ways. Each problem includes an optional "hint" as well as a solution. These problems are suitable for collaborative or individual work, either on-line or off-line. In fact, you may wish to simply write the problem on the board or overhead and keep the solution (and hint) to yourself!
