ASSESSMENT
ISSUES

The purpose of the lesson is to have students figure out the number of centimeter cubes it would take to make a larger cube ( a 5x5x5 cm cube).

Conversation is an important assessment strategy. As teachers guide the discourse through their questions, they find out about students' understandings as well as misconceptions. Students hear different ideas and have opportunities to confirm or question their own conjectures.

  • What do you know about the thinking of the different students shown on this video segment?
  • What additional questions would you like to ask the students?
  • What other assessment methods would be appropriate for this activity?
