Gathering Evidence Part Two Video TranscriptNote: The names used here are not necessarily the children's nor the teacher's real names.Ms. S.: Eddie, do you have some way to respond to David? Eddie: I think there is a hun-, 275 in this, 'cause we, 'cause we, 'cause there's 25 in each little square, and we got this one, and we measured it to get, um, five squares. We think that there's five flat squares in here, and we counted five from each. Ms. S.: Okay. Kevin: It'd be 25 times five 'cause here'd be one 25 layer. Then move it, there'd be another 25 layer. Then another one. Another. And there would be five of those, so it'd be 25 times five, which would, I think, equals one twenty-five. Ms. S.: See how you're, what you're thinking. Now you've heard all those different explanations. What do you think? David: Now I heard that, that she was using, uh, purple squares . . . Ms. S.: Um huh. David: This purple cube can fit into here, in the middle, and there's 64. Ms. S.: 'Kay . . . David: So, it has to be, like, you gotta take the number outside and plus it, uh, uh, add it times, plus 64. http://illuminations.nctm.org/reflections/6-8/GatheringEvidence/videoExample3A.html
