Fire

This tool allows students to see the results of a fire if a forest is densely planted in a rectangular grid. Students are able to choose a starting place for the fire and enter the probability for which a tree will burn.

Choose a probability from the drop-down menu, or enter a decimal value for the probability in the box. This indicates the likelihood that the fire will spread to a square if an adjacent square is on fire.

Choose Burn Uninterrupted to let the fire rage out of control, or choose Burn Step By Step to manually advance the fire. If the latter option is chosen, the Step Through Fire button will become active.

Click anywhere on the forest to start the fire. It makes the most sense to start the fire at the center, and the center of the forest can be identified with the Highlight Center button, but it is possible to start anywhere. The fire will continue until it burns itself out or the entire forest is destoryed.

Choose Re-Grow Forest to start over, or select an unburned tree to continue the fire in a different location.
