Mirror Tool

This tool helps students investigate symmetry. Mirrors can be used to create reflection symmetry. For more on Symmetry see the iMath Investigation Symmetries and Their Properties.

  1. Click on a pattern to begin or create your own pattern using the shapes.
  2. Move the line to where you want to place the mirror.
  3. To see the image in the mirror, click on the reflect button.
    NOTE: If the green line is to the left of the image the image will apparently disappear.
  4. To rotate, click on the rotate button and then click on the shape(s) to rotate.
  5. To flip, click on the flip button and then click on the shape(s) to flip.
  6. To stop rotating or flipping, click on the rotate or flip button a second time.
