Airplane Storm Chaser
Vector Investigation Tool - dual vector

Can you catch the hurricane? Try to "catch" the hurricane without hitting the walls. Use the blue vector to control the airplane. Use the red vector to control the wind. Click on "Show Vector Sum" to see the black sum vector.

Using one, two or three vectors, students can explore vectors in different contexts. This dual vector situation uses a plane. For more information about a possible mathematics investigation using the applet see the associated E-example. A list of the customizable parameters is below. Click here to go to the one vector version that uses a car.

Parameter Values Description
WIND 0, false, 1, true Sets if one or two vectors are being used.
VEHICLE String Used to change the name and graphics image of the object being controlled by the first vector.
SOUND 0, false, 1, true Sets initial sound setting to on/off.
GRID 0, false, 1, true Sets grid display to on/off
GOAL 0, false, 1, true Sets whether or not a goal (destination / target) is shown.
GOALMOVES 0, false, 1, true Does the goal/destination/target move?
GOALNAME String Name to use to describe goal and graphics image of the goal.
AUTOSTART 0, false, 1, true Should the applet begin running on startup?
