Pre-K-2
Make groups of
zero through five
objects and connect number words to the groups.
Pre-K-2
Identify characteristics of triangles, manipulate electronic geoboards
to construct triangles, and name the triangles’ relative locations.
Pre-K-2
Focus on comparative subtraction.
Pre-K-2
Build skills for
measuring with non-standard units and describing, naming, interpreting,
and representing relative positions in space.
Pre-K-2
Use algebraic thinking to explore properties of
addition.
Pre-K-2
Explore four models of addition (counting,
number line, sets, and balanced equations) using dominoes.
Pre-K-2
Explore five models of subtraction (counting,
sets, number line, balanced equations, and inverse of addition) using
connecting cubes.
Pre-K-2
Use buttons to explore logical and numerical
relationships.

In this lesson,
students explore the concept of genetics and inheritance. The lesson focuses on
sickle cell anemia, a genetic disease that is dependent on a recessive
trait. Students will perform data collection and analysis of the probability
of a child of two sickle trait parents inheriting sickle cell anemia. To do
this, they play a game that models how the inheritance of a disease works from
parents’ genes. Later, students construct family trees with probability to
determine the genotypes of family members.

Consider how this estimation activity provides
an opportunity for the student with Down's Syndrome to participate.
